After several months of preparations, we held our first official class at Wing Tsun Kwoon on 18Jun2013. This is only the beginning of the next chapter in our Wing Tsun journey. We are very happy to have new students to guide in their own journey and share our passion for the art of Wing Tsun.
We would like to thank our SiFu Steve Chan (CWTA Evanston, IL) and SiBak Chris Mah (CWTA Northfield, IL) for supporting us in this endeavor and coming to the opening day at Wing Tsun Kwoon.

As part of their visit, they presented SiFu Ray’s official CWTA SiFu T-Shirt.

In addition, they gave us the poster and cards from our Wing Tsun brothers and sisters at CWTA HQ in Toronto. Thank you very much SiSok, Si-Hings, Si-Dais, Si-Je, and Si-Mui for your support and sending us these wonderful gifts for our opening day!

Finally, we would like to thank SiFu Carson Lau. Without his support, guidance and encouragement, Wing Tsun Kwoon would not be possible. SiGung greeted us on our opening day and said 桃李滿門 (“wish your students fill up all spaces in your class”).

SiFu Ray, SiSok David and SiSok Allan are humbled by all of the encouragement and support from our CWTA family. It is because of their continued support that help drive us to succeed. We thank you all!

We had five people participate in the “Focus Group” class on Saturday 18May2013. The participants had varying Wing Chun/Wing Tsun experience, ranging from absolutely none to several years.
SiFu Ray started the class by welcoming everybody and going through all of the activities that we will be doing during the 1.5 hour class.

Si-Hing Dave then led the class through warm-up exercises that included jogging, burpees, squats, push-ups, crunches, and plyometrics.

After getting our heart rate up, SiFu Ray instructed the class on the Siu Nim Tao form. SiFu Ray, Si-Hing Dave and Si-Hing Allan assisted the students as they performed each movement of the form, making sure that every point was clear.

To get our blood pumping again, Si-Hing Dave had the class work on several Step and Punch drills.

SiFu Ray then instructed the class on how to properly perform the movements of the Lap Sau cycle.

Afterwards, SiFu Ray showed one sensitivity drill using the Lap Sau cycle wherein one person actively performs a movement that will cause the other person to respond with an appropriate action.

Si-Hing Dave then showed the class how to use the Lap Da movement against an Attacker.

Si-Hing Allan worked with everybody on several one minute rounds of pad drills using the step and punch movements trained earlier in class.

SiFu Ray ended the class by going through the theory of our WTK curriculum and how we implement it in within our WTK class structure.

After the class, we gave each participant an evaluation form to fill out so that we can determine the level of satisfaction regarding the space, class length, physical challenge, variety of activities, content, clarity of instruction, time allotted for each activity, individual attention, pacing for your skill level and overall satisfaction.

We would like to thank all of the participants (Alice, Jordan, Bill, Randy and Paul) of the Focus Group class for taking the time out of their busy schedule to support us in this endeavor. We really appreciated their honest feedback which will help us improve on our Wing Tsun Kwoon curriculum, class structure and instruction.

We have 4 weeks left until we have our first class! If you are interested in training with us, you can register for a Free 2-Week Trial and experience Wing Tsun Kwoon’s classes for yourself (https://wingtsunkwoon.zenplanner.com/zenplanner/portal/freeTrial.cfm).

It’s been a very busy two weeks since our last update.
- Updated our website to include the following:
We are not about the money. It doesn’t mean that we don’t charge fees – obviously we still need to pay the rent and overhead expenses. However, instead of taking more profit for ourselves, our company re-invests its profits back to the school through purchasing additional Wing Tsun training equipment, training of current instructors, and educational support for all our members.
We don’t do contracts. We don’t do external billing companies. We don’t do program “upgrades”, and we don’t treat our members as income streams. We are here to help and support YOUR growth, not the other way around.
- Incorporated Wing Tsun Kwoon as an Illinois Limited Liability Company.
- We are now officially a business entity registered in Illinois!
- Finalized drafts of our Wing Tsun curriculum, syllabus and lesson plans.
- Sifu Ray has been meticulously working on the curriculum, syllabus and lesson plans. It is currently out for final peer review by Si-Hing Dave and Si-Hing Allan.
- Si-Hing Dave is currently creating a visual diagram of our approach to the Wing Tsun Kwoon curriculum. He is also working on the community, accountability, and support system that is integral to the implementation of the Wing Tsun Kwoon curriculum.
- Received go ahead from the Landlord to announce the location and schedule of our classes to our potential students while the rental agreement is being finalized.
- We are going to be located at 711 W. Grand Ave. Chicago, IL 60654.
- Here are some pictures of the facility:

We also got the okay from the Landlord regarding the installation of a Wing Tsun Wooden Dummy and several Wing Tsun Wall Bags! We are hoping to have these ready before we open.
- Finalized the type of general liability insurance coverage and the insurance company.
- We wanted to ensure that all participants during our training are covered by a comprehensive insurance policy.
- Finalized decision on the business scheduling and management software we will use.
- We are going to integrate Zen Planner (www.zenplanner.com) in our website. This will enable our students to register/enroll, schedule a class, check-in class, pay online for tuition/membership/uniform/seminars/privates, and track their performance/skills.
- This system is still being configured and tested, so it is still not active at our website. We will let you know when the system is operational.
There is still A LOT of work ahead of us before we can open our new branch. Rest assured that we will be giving it our best to ensure that we provide quality Wing Tsun instruction and excellent customer service. Our target grand opening is on June 18, 2013! If you are interested in attending class at Wing Tsun Kwoon, please email us at info@wingtsunkwoon.com.

We continued our discussion on the Wing Tsun Kwoon curriculum. This time we focused on the class structure and lesson plans. We constructed each class to include fitness, instruction/concepts, repetition/drills, and application/self-defense. Each class will build on the concepts, movements, and forms required to progress through each student grade level.
As part of constructing the lesson plan, Sifu Ray tries it out with Si-Hing Dave in order to make our teaching program more efficient and effective.

Si-Hing Allan discussed having a web-based/mobile solution for our clients to simplify every transaction from booking a class, adjusting their schedules, update/pay for membership, send instant notifications to confirm a session, class reminder, follow ups after a class and many other scenarios.
We are also actively working on finding a suitable location with class schedules that are convenient for our clients. In the meantime, please keep sending us your location suggestions. We appreciate your help in finding space for Wing Tsun Kwoon!
